Vostok Watch History

"Vostok - precise time"

The Chistopol Watch Factory "Vostok" is located in the city of Chistopol, Tatarstan, Russia. It is a city-forming enterprise for the monocity.

In the fall of October 15, 1941, during the defense of Moscow, the Economic Council under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR issued Decree No. 180 on the Evacuation of the Second Moscow Watch Factory to the city of Chistopol in the Tatar ASSR. Equipment from the second Moscow Watch Factory, housed in 170 railway cars, was delivered to Kazan (capital of Tatarstan) and then sent to Chistopol on barges. The first barge arrived to Chistopol on November 10, 1941. Even after navigation was halted, the machinery was transported until February 1942, enduring temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F), pulled by horses over an ice road through the Kamu River.

Along with the Moscow Watch Factory's equipment, 488 specialists led by the director arrived in Chistopol from Moscow. Nevertheless, there was a shortage of labor, necessitating the recruitment of employees from local and evacuated populations. 14 and 15-year-old teenagers were hired, who, together with Moscow residents, engaged in equipment installation, simultaneously learning new professions.

The collective of the evacuated second Moscow Watch Factory in Chistopol during the war years was involved in the production of tank watches and fuses for anti-tank grenades. By special departmental orders, the enterprise developed and introduced into serial production the design of a 60-day delayed-action mine, fuel consumption devices for airplanes, technical components for torpedoes, and recorders for the hydro-meteorological service.

"Time-Tested"

For almost eighty years, the enterprise has been producing men's mechanical wristwatches. The first watchmakers of Chistopol, renowned for their utmost professionalism, forged the principles of reliable and accurate operation during the challenging wartime years when the factory manufactured watch mechanisms for the needs of the front. These principles became obligatory for all subsequent generations of workers.

The watchmakers of Chistopol made their contribution to the victory of the Soviet people over fascism and to the country's restoration through their labor feat.

Since 1965, the Chistopol Watch Factory "Vostok" has become the official supplier of watches for the Ministry of Defense. The "Commander's" watches, as these chronometers came to be known, immediately gained recognition among career officers due to their reliability and practicality.

"On Land, Underwater, and in Space"

In 1967, specifically commissioned by the Soviet Navy, the Chistopol Watch Factory "Vostok" produced the first "Amphibia" watches, which became an iconic item of that time. The "Amphibia" watches reliably operate at depths of up to 200 meters, enduring significant temperature and pressure variations.

In the 1970s, in collaboration with the Ministry of Instrument Engineering for Automation and Control Systems (GLAVCHASPROM), the production of special wristwatches designed for underwater use at depths of up to 300 meters began. These wristwatches were intended for diving.

In 1975, the "Amphibia" watches journeyed into space during the first expedition to the "Salyut-4" space station on the spacecraft "Soyuz-17." The watches were part of the equipment worn by the station's flight engineer, Georgy Mikhailovich Grechko. The flight lasted for 29 days.

"Always Ahead"

Today, the CJSC Chistopol Watch Factory "Vostok" is the only watch factory in Russia with a complete (closed) cycle of production for watch mechanisms and mechanical wristwatches.

A distinguishing feature of "Vostok" brand products is their compliance with European quality standards and affordable Russian pricing.

Our mechanical watches accurately measure time in any temperature, withstand any aggressive environment, and endure shocks and overloads. Throughout all these years of operation, Chistopol's watchmakers have steadfastly adhered to the classic design - all mechanism models feature the so-called Swiss lever escapement, steel escape wheels and pallet forks, pivots on ruby jewels, mainsprings made from special precision alloys, and shock-resistant balance mechanisms.

The work of Chistopol's watchmakers has been recognized with numerous international and Russian diplomas and awards. This includes the "Commercial Prestige" award (France), "Diamond Star" (Mexico) for quality, "Golden Globe" (Denmark) for business achievements, "Golden Eagle" (Germany) for significant contributions to the country's economic development, and many others."
