How to Change a Vostok Watch Strap or Bracelet

How to Change a Vostok Watch Strap or Bracelet

Vostok watches—including the iconic Amphibia and Komandirskie models—are known for their durability and simple construction. One of their biggest advantages is how easy they are to customize. Replacing the strap or bracelet takes just a few minutes and can completely change the look of your watch.

In this guide, you’ll learn exactly how to replace a Vostok watch strap safely and correctly.

What You’ll Need

  • Spring bar tool (recommended for safe and easy removal)
  • Replacement strap or bracelet (18 mm, 20 mm, or 22 mm depending on model)
  • Soft cloth or towel (to protect the case and crystal)
  • Optional: tweezers for handling spring bars

Step 1: Check Your Vostok Strap Size

Before buying a new strap, confirm your lug width—the distance between the lugs.

  • Amphibia models: usually 20 mm
  • Komandirskie models: often 18 mm or 22 mm

If unsure, measure your current strap or check official specifications.

Step 2: Prepare Your Workspace

Work on a flat, well-lit surface with a soft cloth underneath. This prevents scratches and helps you avoid losing small parts like spring bars.

Step 3: Remove the Original Strap or Bracelet

  • Place the watch face-down
  • Locate the spring bar between the lugs
  • Use the spring bar tool to compress the pin inward
  • Gently release one side, then remove the strap

Repeat for the other side.

Note: Most Vostok bracelets also use spring bars, but some may have screw links. In that case, use a small screwdriver.

Step 4: Install the New Strap

  • Insert the spring bar into the new strap
  • Place one end into the lug hole
  • Compress the other end and guide it into position
  • Wait for a click or firm fit
  • Gently pull to confirm it’s secure

Repeat for the other side.

Step 5: Final Check

  • Ensure both sides are securely attached
  • Confirm the strap sits evenly between the lugs
  • Check that the buckle or clasp is correctly positioned

Tips for Better Results

  • NATO straps: Can be threaded through without full removal
  • Use quality spring bars: Prevents accidental detachment
  • Avoid pressure on crown: Protects internal movement
  • Bezel care: Don’t rest tools against the bezel insert
